On January 12, 2010, a unique art show kicked off its year-long tour throughout the state of Indiana. “What’s important to me! An exhibit of art by Hoosiers with developmental disabilities” reflects the needs, hopes, and goals of Indiana residents with developmental disabilities through dozens of artistic creations.
Sponsored by IPMG, the exhibit enables individuals with developmental disabilities, including those receiving an Autism, Developmental Disabilities, or Support Services Waiver from the State’s Medicaid waiver program, to share the hopes, dreams, and interests they have for their lives within their communities. (Click here to see the exhibit on display at the tour's first stop, the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library.)
“What’s important to me!” will travel to various cities across the state, including Evansville, Indianapolis, Terre Haute, South Bend, and Richmond, with a special stop at the Indiana Statehouse March 1 – 31 in honor of Disabilities Awareness Month. Developed to raise awareness about developmental disabilities, the tour facilitates community integration of individuals with autism, cerebral palsy, and other diagnoses, and creates a greater understanding of the person-centered services provided by the State of Indiana and IPMG to individuals with developmental disabilities.
For those supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, “What’s important to me!” paints a picture of how person-centered thinking can be implemented as they work together to provide quality person-centered planning for each individual. “What’s important to me!” provides a tangible reflection of the person-centered services provided to more than 12,700 individuals participating in the State’s waiver program through the Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services (DDRS), a department of Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration who administers the Medicaid waiver program. Since September 2006, IPMG has been the sole provider of case management services for individuals receiving an Autism, Developmental Disabilities, or Support Services Waiver.

Are you receiving services and supports that help you meet your needs and achieve your goals, hopes, and dreams? Show that success in art!
In the spirit of the enhancements that IPMG has made to the person-centered planning process, IPMG is currently accepting artwork from individuals with developmental disabilities that expresses what is important to the individual.
As the sole provider of person-centered case management services to Hoosiers receiving an Autism, Developmental Disabilities, or Support Services Waiver, the needs of the waiver recipient are paramount in everything IPMG does.
By submitting your artwork, you will have the opportunity for IPMG to display your artwork in different community settings throughout the state in an exhibition entitled, “What’s important to me! An exhibition of artwork created by Hoosiers with developmental disabilities.” Additionally, your artwork may be photographed and shown online on websites, media sites, or other uses.
IPMG is accepting a variety of art mediums, such as paintings, beadwork, poetry, or photography. Entries should be no larger than 24 inches x 36 inches and weigh no more than 50 pounds. Please limit artwork entries to no more than three per person.
The purpose of IPMG’s art campaign is to provide an opportunity for Hoosiers with developmental disabilities to share those aspects of their lives that they consider important to and important for them with local communities. Artwork included for exhibition is at the discretion of IPMG. Submissions must be comprised of artwork created by an individual with a developmental disability and express what is important to and/or important for the individual. Artwork submitted by an organization; created at or during an event/activity held by organization; bearing the name of an organization, product, or affiliation (unless the subject of the artwork); or that bears offensive subject matter will not be included in the exhibit.
For each entry, please complete the “Call for Person-Centered Art” form and include it when you submit your artwork. Entries may be submitted to your IPMG Case Manager, at an IPMG Powerful Parents and Consumers Network chapter meeting (visit the Powerful Parents and Consumers Network page for meeting locations and times), received at IPMG’s corporate offices in Merrillville, Fort Wayne, or Indianapolis, or mailed directly to the art show.
