Employee Owner of the Month: January 2023

Jan 03, 2023

Introducing IPMG's Employee Owner of the Month of January: Crystal Selleck, Wraparound Facilitator!

Crystal was nominated for this award by a guardian of an individual she serves. The nomination stated "Crystal is our first wraparound facilitator. She has been there through thick and thin. She has helped us with other services. Crystal has started seeking help for my 2nd child since she is starting to show symptoms just like her brother. Crystal has never given up on us and helps in any way that she can. Crystal has been with our family for a year and it has not been an easy year at all. Thank you Crystal for being with us and never giving up no matter how rough our times has been."

Crystal writes, "I am thankful to be nominated for this by this family. These children have a grandma who will take on the world for them and a team of people who are willing to try plans A through Z. Over the year I have worked with him, I have seen him grow to trust others and be able to show how intelligent he is. We will keep jumping hurdles to help his sibling as well.

I have worked in children’s mental health for the past 13 years. I have always been interested in why people behave the way they do. My 5th grade teacher sat me between two boys who struggled not to run around the classroom so that I could be a calming presence to them and here I am today. I have a bachelor’s of science in social work and psychology. My original goal was to be a school guidance counselor, but ironically my academic advisors told me to go through the wrong programs to do this. During college I volunteered with CASA as well as interned with Grant-Blackford Mental Health Center, Pathfinders, and a pregnancy center.
I worked for 6 years as a rehabilitation provider, coordinator, and rehabilitation supervisor with Bowen Center. I then took a year off from mental health, staying home with my 4-year-old and teaching preschool part time. My husband thought I had lost my mind when I told him I missed working in mental health and that I felt so few people have a calling for it that those of us who do cannot quit. I worked with 4 County for 6 years as a wraparound facilitator and wraparound supervisor. I also provided access services for wraparound and was a system of care coordinator for a year.

I have had some excellent supervisors over the years who have taught me the importance of having coworkers backs and putting children’s rights above the politics of systems. One of my favorite coworkers helped me see that my ability to see the positive in each family is unique and a quality I need to hold onto dearly as I work with families. My motto is “Never throw in the towel on children.”
My husband, John, and I have been married for 15 years. We have two sons Ean, 13, and Wyatt, 11. We also have a 7-year-old Golden retriever/Lab named Hank and a 7-month-old Yorkipoo named Augie. A couple years ago we moved to a home beside a state park. We spend a lot of time watching the wild life from our many porches. We love being active and trying new adventures. I can often be found on the bleachers at one of my boy’s many athletic activities. I also enjoy the peacefulness of reading a good book and taking pictures."

Congratulations, Crystal! We are so blessed to have you on our team!
